ABOUT
Electroville Jukebox is a project dedicated to contemporary, experimental and improvised music.
Aiming to perform original pieces and repertoire by Portuguese composers, Electroville Jukebox is a band that navigates between contemporary "classical" music and free improvisation, touching on various aesthetics such as rock, jazz, noise, etc.
It aims to be a space for experimentation and collaboration open to creators and performers.
Its formation is variable, based on the combination of acoustic instruments (saxophone and percussion), electric (electric guitar) and digital (synthesizers and max).
Its premiere was in May 2018 at TEMPO - Teatro Municipal de Portimão, at the opening concert of the Sax @ Sul - II Saxophone Meeting of the Algarve.
PROJECTS
MURAIS SONOROS PARA ABRIL
|
This project, which aims to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Carnation Revolution of April 25th, 1974, consists of an audiovisual concert where a live soundtrack is created for an original film.
The film, a colaboration between the filmmaker Mário Melo Costa and the visual artist BLINDSNIPER aka Nuno Mega, starts from the values that were behind the revolution and places them in today's world, questioning how contemporary society has integrated, updated or even forgotten them. What is April 25th today? |

ECHO-MUSIC
|
Echo-Music is an inclusive project that combines technology, music and echolocation — the biological capacity of localization through sounds, allowing a user with reduced visual capabilities (blind and partially sighted), to perform live without using their hands for prior preparation (no sheet music). Created by saxophonist Rodrigo Lima, the operation consists of an interface connected to a device with headphones connected to a microphone, which, through clicks from the mouth emitted by the user, allows you to “read” a score using human echolocation. The device with headphones connected to a microphone allows the user to emit clicks with the mouth to receive feedback from the artificially created surrounding space; the electronically created distance between the user and that space is converted into a previously agreed code. For the Eco-Musica project, this distance/reverberation, created by the interface, will be converted into chords, notes and rhythm. In practice, this interface allows a user, after a brief explanation of how the technology works, to be able to play a score without having to study it beforehand, as if it were a “sight reading”. The user can intervene when he sees fit using only the clicks of the mouth to be able to recognize the correct place in the virtual score and interact with the other musicians in real time. |

IMPROVISATION WORKSHOP
The improvisation workshop is guided by Electroville Jukebox musicians and is aimed at music students, of any instrument and level. With a focus on non-idiomatic improvisation, the work is developed from the use of graphic scores in a practical group session. All of this will be addressed as if it were a rehearsal and the result will be presented at the Electroville Jukebox concert.
